DJ SHA KIM

DJ Shakim was born with music running in his veins. While growing up in Brooklyn, he experienced the birth of Hip Hop. And with his brother’s influence, he was introduced to Disco. From block parties to clubs (e.g. Studio 54), they were on a mission to spread their love for the music.

During the day he worked at Coney Island’s World Famous Himalaya Ride. That’s where he crafted his skills to play for a huge crowd. In the late 80’s he decided to make a change and moved to South Carolina. Creating a huge buzz in the streets from the Carolina’s down to Florida by making mixtapes and djing in the clubs, he landed a weekend spot at one of the most historical black owned radio stations in the South, WPAL 100.9 FM. His show in the mix with Backdoor Productions was on the air for 8 years.

Today Shakim and Backdoor Productions is more known for production and remixing great music. But, you may see him keeping the dance floor packed at a party or someone blasting his mixtape in their car because he’s still on a mission.
